Fibre Speeds Without Fibre

Multiple copper pairs help deliver fibre speeds without the fibre price tag

Ethernet First Mile (EFM) technology is perfect for any business that is looking for cost effective, high bandwidth connectivity to the Internet. It sits between ADSL (which can be limiting depending on your location) and a full leased line (which can be prohibitively expensive to small business). It makes use of multiple bonded copper pairs (up to a maximum of 8) providing speeds of up to 35Mbps. These speeds are symmetrical ensuring you have the same up and downstream speeds, making it perfect for VoIP calls or when handling large amounts of data. The multiple bonded pairs also offer resilience, in as much should one or multiple pairs develop a fault, the connection still operates albeit at a slower speed.

As well as delivering consistent high speed connectivity, these lines are with a full service level agreement. This helps safeguard against the unexpected and ensures swift guaranteed action from CIX and our partners. Failure to deliver within service agreements results in compensation being applied.

In summary EFM delivers:

  • Improved reliability using multiple copper pairs (up to a maximum of 8)
  • Symmetrical speeds perfect for VoIP and other other bandwidth sensitive applications
  • Enhanced support with 7 hour fault fix time scales
  • High speed and low contention broadband connectivity up to 35Mbps without the need for phone lines

EFM Options

Customise your EFM specification

Speeds / Bandwidth
Speed 2Mbps - 35Mbps We are able to offer guaranteed speeds from 2Mbps to 35Mbps up to 4.5km from the exchange. Speeds can be scaled by adding more pairs up to a maximum of 8.
Contention 1:1 The bandwidth supplied is not shared with anyone. As such you won't see any fluctuations in speed other than what is being consumed by your workers.
Live EFM Nodes 721 There are 721 live EFM nodes available to us across the UK.
Exchanges 1080 1080 exchanges have been built to deploy EFM.
Coverage Approx 60% Approximately 60% of UK businesses have EFM available to them.
Time scales 25 Working Days It typically takes 25 working days for an EFM circuit to be installed.

Contract
Pricing Varies The price you pay will vary depending on your location and bandwidth requirements. As such it is important you make contact with a member of our team to provide you with a tailored quote.
Contract Length 1 or 3 Years Free installation options are available on longer term contracts. We can provide you with multiple package deals for you to choose from.
SLA 7 Hour Fix In the unlikely event of a failure on your line we will provide on-site assistance, around the clock, with a 7 hour fix aim.
Resilience Yes Multi-pair delivery means the loss of a single pair doesn't result in total loss of service. Additional resilience is enabled through distribution over five units within an exchange. Pairs within a single EFM circuit are split over the units.
Data Caps Unmetered There are no usage caps or fair usage policies applied to leased lines.

Included As Standard
Static IPv4 Included We can supply a routed block of IPv4 addresses at no additional cost. The size of the allocation must comply with RIPE rules.
Static IPv6 Included As standard we can supply your connection with a /48 allocation offering countless IP addresses for you to use.
Monitoring Included We proactively monitor your connection and will be available around the clock to offer support in the event of failure.
